Back Story
In this fantastical world almost everyone has taken the form of a shape, whether that be squares, circles, triangles, and etc. These shapes are integral to the identity of the bearer and are seen as a permanent definition of who they are and will forever be. What you are born as is what you will remain as to the end of your life. To change your shape was not only thought to be impossible, but dangerous to the minds of many. However, over the course of thousands of years, a DNA mutation has caused a very select few to gain the ability to shapeshift. Although these shapeshifters have the ability to change form, they are only able to absorb the RNA of those who also possess the DNA mutation. And so, these individuals were soon outcast and feared by the majority population, they were exiled to the unforgiving and treacherous wilds and were expected to perish. These individuals, known as the shapers, yearn that one day their kind will eventually become accepted by society, with one particular individual rising above all as the hero to their revolution. However, little did they realize that the hero will soon come to the realization that one must never rely on others for an identity, but to look inside oneself instead. And so, this is where the journey of the game begins.
Game Plot
The formless player awakens from a black void and finds himself in a strange prison mine deep underground. Dazed and confused, he searches for any sign of life. Soon enough he starts meeting the Shaper npcs who are delighted to help him on his journey of self discovery. Each Shaper NPC grants the player their own identity, convinced that it is the shape that the hero player must use for the journey. However, the player is soon overrun by a multitude of Shapers all determined to bestow upon him what they think his identity should be. Indeed, all these different shapes have their uses throughout the journey the player makes in the game. However, by the end of the game, the player abandons all these shape identities and instead goes with one completely different from the rest. This is ultimately the true theme of the game. The journey of self discovery.
